Picnic Afternoon Tea: Inn at Laurel Point
Spring time in British Columbia is one of my favourite times of year. The days are longer and warmer and the flowers are starting to bloom. With Mother’s day fast approaching I was looking for a fun way to spend some time with my mom.
My mom loves fashion and afternoon tea as much as I do so when I saw Inn at Laurel Point was putting together Afternoon Tea boxes to go I thought this would be a perfect Mother’s Day Treat.
What I love about the Tea at Inn at Laurel Point is the Japanese fusion twist on the food. Two of my favourite Japanese sandwiches are a tamago (Egg) or katsu (cutlet) sando (sandwich). The afternoon tea has a tamago and chicken katsu sando. I could eat this tamago sando everyday. The egg is so creamy and slightly sweet white the milk bread used is so fluffy and soft. The beet and shiso sandwich was a unique flavour combination with some tang from a yoghurt dressing (this was my mom’s favourite). There was also a braised beef steamed bun with was soft, fluffy and delicious.
The tea comes with two scone varieties. The sour cherry and white chocolate scone was my favourite option because I found it unique with the cherry glaze on top.
There were 5 different pastry options included and honestly they were all delicious. The yuzu meringue profiterole stood out to me since it was a nice sour palette cleanser in amongst the meal. After the meringue my mom’s favourite treat was the peaches & cream verrine which is surprising since she does not like cream based desserts (she may have eaten both of them but its allowed, its mothers day 🤣).
The tea includes your choice of a loose leaf tea from Silk Road. We had the Imperial Earl Grey (Black Tea).
The Mother’s Day afternoon tea is now sold out but Inn at Laurel Point has Afternoon Tea available for other weekends over the summer if you are looking for a fun weekend activity and a way to support a local restaurant.
Click here for a link to the hotel’s Afternoon Tea online takeout menu. The hotel also has other takeout items which you can order online and the best part is you can pick it all up curbside!
Vancouver Island has so many great parks and gardens to enjoy this tea in. If you check out my last instagram reel featuring the gardens at Government House that would be a great place to enjoy your Tea!
Tea was kindly gifted by the hotel, review is my own.
