Fall Color Crush: Brown
Every season I find a color I love and before I know it everything I am buying is in this color. Last season it was red. At one point everyone I knew including my inner voice was telling me I had to stop buying things in red.
Well its fall so you know what that means. A fall color crush. This season it is brown. The love started after I ordered this gorgeous long brown dress from Runaway the Label. Before I knew it I was heading out the door in head to toe brown. So for all the girls out there looking for a fall neutral starter pack let me introduce you to all things brown.
1. Clothing
If you are on the hunt for the perfect transitional dress look no further than this Runaway the Label dress. The soft ribbed material is super comfortable. The asymmetric pleated detail with the flat section on the waist is figure flattering. The long length while sleeveless makes it versatile on warmer days but easy to layer with a jacket.
For layering I have this cropped jacket from Aritzia which I got last year. This shape is a staple item at Aritzia however the colors change annually. I like the cropped jacket with a long dress to show more shape to my body over a longer blazer. I also have a short torso so I like the proportions a cropped jacket creates.
2. Nails
Dark chocolate nails...do I need to say more? When I went to get my last manicure I was stuck between one more summer color or more of a fall nail. The beauty of a chocolate or brown manicure is that although it is typically a fall color it is also a neutral. Like nude or black I think you could wear this color all year round. There is also something elegant about a deep rich brown tone.
3. Shoes
I got a pair of LV sandals late last Spring but somehow failed to ever share them. These sandals compliment any brown outfit. The gold accents give them a dressier look while they are still casual.
I feel like the summer season was rather short but I am still trying to get use out of them. I actually love pairing these with cute patterned socks to make them work in colder weather.
I know spending that much money on sandals is not for everyone but you can easily get the same look with other chunky brown sandals.
For a fall update I chose a brown-burgundy tone platform loafer.
4. Sunglasses
A pair of neutral brown or tortoiseshell sunglasses is a great basic for everyone to have in their wardrobe.
If you do not have either thin gold rimmed glasses would be a perfect compliment to a rich brown look.
5. Makeup
When it comes to makeup I have a basic everyday look that I do. Overall the makeup is neutral and natural. The major difference is my lip color to match my outfit. This season I am crushing on brown lips. On more casual days I go with just a brown gloss. If I want more impact I layer a brown lipstick with a gloss.
Currently I am loving my Rhode and Lisa Eldridge glosses. I would say both glosses feel hydrating. The Rhode gloss is less pigmented but still shows a color stain on the lips. The Lisa Eldridge glosses are pigmented enough to use without a lipstick underneath.
My favorite brown lipstick is from Gucci. It is a matte lipstick. I know layering a gloss on a matte lipstick defeats its purpose but I am yet to find a satin brown lipstick in a share I like.
I do have two brown tone lip colors from Tom Ford which I like but I do find they fade faster than my Gucci matte brown. This is expected given the satin finish. If you know a satin finish brown lipstick with decent staying power please let me know!
There you have it. My starter pack for the perfect transitional brown outfit. This look can be dressed up for example with large gold earrings and necklace or kept more simple and neutral. I have yet to find the perfect brown hat but maybe that will be the final touch to this look.
