My top 3 Cafés in Vienna

One of the highlights from my visit to Vienna was visiting the historic Cafés in the city. Café culture is an important part of Viennes tradition. I am sharing my 3 favourite cafés from my visit.

Café Central

Address: Herrengasse 14, 1010 Wien, Austria

Café Central opened in opened in 1876 and is located within the building of a former bank. Café Central is one of the oldest coffeehouses in Vienna. When the Café opened coffee houses in Vienna was a common meeting place for intellectuals, artists, authors and politicians. Café Central used to be frequented by some of the greatest minds in history such as Trotsky and Sigmund Freud.

We did not make a reservation but went early in the morning and did not have to wait to get seated. I tried the traditional apple strudel which was delicious.

Gerstner K.u.K Hofzuckerbäcker

Address: Kärntner Str. 51, 1010 Wien, Austria

Gerstner K.u.K. Hofzuckerbäcker began in 1847 and became an imperial pastry shop in 1873. The café is located opposite the Staatsoper theater.

We made a reservation at the Café since it can be quite busy and we wanted a table in the gorgeous main dining area. The sandwiches, cake and petit fours we had were all amazing.

Café sacher

Address: Philharmoniker Str. 4, 1010 Wien, Austria

Café Sacher is located inside the Sacher Hotel and is famous for the original Sacher-Torte. We had to visit during our stay.

The Sacher-Torte did not disappoint and it worth the visit. The Café takes reservations but walk ins are also possible if you go early.
